Problem Measuring tight slots.

I have a Global Chrome with a scanning probe. I have a set of slots that are 1.9mm wide and I need to use a 1mm probe to reach where I measuring. I do a move to into the slot it never crashes. When I go to take a point on some parts it gives an error "ERROR CE ,S%1 ,TR_CE ,0x14000035 Invalid reading of the measured point"
I have adjusted prehit and retract down to .1mm/.004" I have adjusted my point position to try and bias it for each side of the slot. Parts are plastic molded so there is some difference in slot location but I can always drive into the slot just fine.

Try going a little bigger on the prehit / retract. I know it doesn't sound right, but has worked for me in the past in tight area situations.

Temporarliy align to another relevant feature that might be in closer relation to the slot ? Add a little finesse to the program on a feature that has allot of mobility is the key.

Maybe get the rough position of the slot using a larger probe (part geometry permitting). If you use a 2.5 or 3mm probe you can take a series of hits along the surface that cross the slot. Then find the point with the greatest deviation (low spot). You can then shift your alignment to that point and safely measure the slot with a larger prehit/retract value.

Since you have a scanning probe you can make this even easier using a center point scan. It can measure the center of a slot/groove about as fast as a single vector point.

Unfortunately slot geometry won't support that. But I can try a zero that is closer.
