How does pcdmis calculate surface profile?

Can someone explain how PcDmis calculates surface profile with a cad model. I am using 2015 with cad. We have a profile out on a surface that is also a datum and there is some debate about the extent cad data is used for extracting point info. The engineer says the profile is good because and the alignment is causing the issue and that the alignment matches up automatically to the model regardless of where the datum points hit. I say the alignment (iterative) is going to take points on the physical part and put the origin over the cad origin (not actually moving the origin to theoretical x,y,z as in the cad origin.) I also say the profile uses cad data to find the theoretical x,y,z location of points in the profile and then establishes the true profile feviation relative to the theoretical points.. Plz help.

  • if points are picked from CAD data, they have XYZ nominals. Deviation from those nominals show up as deviation in the profile. You MUST have cad nominals for all features (points) used for profile. UNLESS you are using "FIND NOMS ON EXECUTE" (which you should NOT be doing) then the nominals/deviations used are from what you programmed.
