Virtual CMM

What version are you running? I'm not sure but I'm wondering if the ability to import the virtual machine is exclusive to certain versions.

I'm running 2022.2.

You need to be running offline to add a machine model.  We had to disable them when online because there were conflicts.  The model's virtual limits don't always match the physical machine limits and when that happens you can get out of axis errors, even though the machine physically has enough travel.  Once we have a true digital twin of the machines (rather than the basic CAD models we currently use), we can re-enable them for online.

Can he use the online/offline trick to open two codes to get access with his "online" seat?

Not at the moment

If you only have an online license, only one routine can actually be treated as being online at any one time.  If you open a routine, leave it open and then open another routine over the top, that second routine is treated as offline and should allow you to insert a machine definition.  However, the machine model will be disabled whenever the routine is opened online.
