Calibration Sphere Data

Hi all,

Where's the calibration sphere/spheres tool definition & data stored in PC-DMIS? Can I copy it and paste it into another CMM to avoid having to create the calibration spheres/tools on each machine?

Thanks for all your help,

Robert

  • You could... theoretically.... if the machines are identical and you have tolerances greater than ±5 mm. Each CMM is laser mapped and there are a bit more than slight differences in where the holes are drilled on the table where you mount the calibration sphere. Every probe head is also slightly different in it's factory calibration and by reason of wear and tear it changes over time. You can import the probe files if it is that much of a problem to recreate them on the new machine. But then you STILL HAVE TO ACTUALLY CALIBRATE THEM. Just as time consuming as creating them. And you will want to slow the CMM WAAAY down when calibrating them cuz it might miss, or worse, crash into the calibration sphere. Edit/Search Path will tell you where those probe files are located.
