Can CMM finish restart by taking off probe module?

Hello all, Happy Friday.

My sister plant has a Hexagon bridge CMM. It always failed with probe facing the moving wall. So when operator restarted the machine at that time, the probe cracked on the wall and damaged the probe. I wonder whether we can take off the probe module to finish the restart.  The machine is busy all the time and I do not have any excuse to cut in and have a try.

Thank you.

  • I used to have the same problem with a couple of Sheffield D28's.  With those machines we were able to take the whole probe assembly off of the probe head at the Autojoint connection before starting the homing process.  After homing we could jog the quill back to the middle of the machine and reattach the probe.  The machine didn't raise any errors for any of these actions.
