Are you asking about updating PC hardware or your Global 575 ?

Sorry it wasn't clear, for the pc we need to get. I didn't know if there is anything that might make a difference for future use (the pc we are replacing is the one that was installed with the cmm)

They could certainly just upgrade your current PC to windows 10 from 7. Or would they rather upgrade the entire machine? We just were forced to upgrade to windows 11 last week, and I had no issues with the transition from 10. Getting a whole new machine would require you doing a license transfer with hexagon at the least

Good question. I was asking on behalf of the IT dept (since they aren't elite enough to be here on this forum), I think they are just used to replacing the pc but it might make more sense in this case. I had looked up the license transfer & it didn't seem overwhelming (but every time i think that i get 'whelmed' really quickly). 

I fear the day I need a license transfer. We are an edge case I'd wager but when we got our new CMM in 2022 it came with a trial for Q-DAS that Hexagon loaded into the new PC. Our IT got a hold of it, and changed the name of the PC. So in the registry the name of the computer the license was assigned to didn't match, and we lost the access to it. We never got to try the free month to see if it was worth buying. We have a ticket that is still open I believe with Hexagon for this, because the guy who had our ticket got a promotion to a different department. No one ever picked up the ticket we had open that he was assigned to.

Just sent an email to IT asking if we can just upgrade the pc instead of switching it, thank you

Sorry, I thought you had mentioned you can’t go to windows 11 from windows 7 but re-reading your post it makes sense you already know pc dmis 2017 can not run on windows 11.

what sensors do you have on your CMM? Tactile probing only? Analog scanning? Laser, vision?

your PC will be no problem for tactile probing. 

Probing only (working on getting scanning capability, but that is a wish list item). Thank you
