I would add here: with a bit more research you can add all these in an external subroutine to holds a header and a footer. All programs call this sub twice (beginning/end). This way when you need modifications you just do it to the subroutine and not all your programs (initial modification for the calling of the sub is needed though). This is what we do where I work.

So what would a sub routine look like that, has a comment that adds the badge number, dumps it into an excel file in a specific cell, and then pulls back the information inside a different cell that shows the data is ok or nok?

It would be similar to the content of the code I posted above, but it would require some things I am not familiar with, like subroutine arguments and variables. Did you test to see if my code does what you need? I didn't go as far as to do data validation from an external file, just hard coded the allowed users.

yours would work, but we dont want to have it hardcoded into the program because turnover rate we would have to modify 10+ programs every time a badge is deleted or added. we would rather have an excel on our network that we can keep pulling from.

Yeah, that's fine. I only hard coded it for a quick example. We would validate with an external excel file of employees and corresponding badge numbers. I just haven't got that far, been busy, and was waiting for your response. Using Ncogneto 's script would probably serve you better, as it will not have any plain text visible, and you'll have more control over validation, and would only need to edit 1 file instead of all programs. He may already know of a way off the top of his head to control user access, since he wrote that script pretty quick.

 HunterS1103 at this point, i would look to your IT team / dept. for support. its way easier to add or remove users from a group vs updating code every time you gain or lose someone.
