How to use datum C to stop alignment rotation? Help needed.

Good Morning all.

I started to work on a cylinder alignment this morning, after datum A and B, I found that I do not know how to deal with datum C to stop the rotation. I will measure a cylinder CYL1 of datum A, 2 small planes PLN2 and PLN3 to form PLN_B, there was a PLN_C which was down the Y axis. I level Y axis to CYL1, and move axis Y to PLN_B, what could I do about PLN_C to finally limit the rotation about Y axis?

They didn't do you any favors on that one!
Is datum C "on center" to datum A? Or is it offset some funky amount?
If it's on center, you could use a point and a 2d line to lock the rotation. If it's off center you could try the same thing with an offset point, but would likely start to get accuracy issues.
Projection error on your small datum B planes might also shift your origin in and out.

Iterative alignment then setup your datums, and dimension in GEOTOL, then when the engineer complains the part doesn't fit correctly ask them to review their datum structure.

I created line1 from intersection of PLN_B&PLN_C. Then created a point PNT_C from LINE1 and CYL1. Move Y axis to PLN_B. X and Z to CYL1. Created generic PNT_zero Point (0,0,0). Created line2 form PNT_zero to PNT_C, rotated to line2.
