Cnc software users????

This section of the Forum is about dead??? Is there anyone that is using
PCDMIS CNC software out there? We are thinking about buying it for our Mazak machining centers and I was wondering if it is a wise investment? I would like some feed back please from anyone that has been using it.
I have used PCDMIS on a CMM for 16 or so years and I am pleased with it but we are trying to streamline some of the operations and we are thinking this would be a good advancement to check the part and to CAD while still on the CNC machine. I welcome all comments on this. Thanks

Can't help you on the software, but only on "process & procedure". If you want to use the mill to check the part, the check will only be as good as the mill, which MAY mean getting the mill calibrated/certified on a regular basis along with the CMM. Of course, this may also depend on the tolerances you are trying to hold.

I think JAN was a big CNC user, if he doesn't show up, you could try giving him a PM.
  • I am A CNC user I have it on 5 Mazaks. It doesn't seem like there are to many NC users. We are using it for in processes checks and works pretty good for most of the features we need to check. I am checking sizes with tolerances with +/- .0005. Most of my machines are brand new or close to it.

Renishaw are into 'probing' on Cnc machines with a stack of probes & the software to go with it. I had the job of re-measuring stuff off Mazak M/c centres that had already been 'inspected' by probing. To get it right the Cnc needs to be 'lasered up' beforehand & suffer no big 'Crumps' along the way.

What we found was the operators found the errors sooner & not as they thought 'no more errors to put on report'.
  • I have been using PCDMIS NC for about two years now. It is being used on one SNK machine and one Bertsche machine with very good results. We have compared the inspection results with our new Delta Slant Gantry cmm and the comparison are very simular. I beleive this is the future of inspection.
  • we use renishaw probes to check ctq's and send it to a spc terminal and are able to compare the maching center to first article cmm reports works preety good if you are able to spend the money not a bad investment especially when you put an M00 at the end to check the dimensions before taking the part off
