New CNC - no RS232

Hi all - first let me say, I am not a PC-DMIS guy, I am the lead man in a mid sized machine shop. We have been using PC-DMIS in the shop for many years for on the machine probing of machined composite parts for inspection/quality purposes. My issue is, all of our machines are currently receiving probe information from or CNC machines via RS232 connection, we recently purchased a new CNC machine, and unknown to us, the machine does not have a RS232 port. The machine is currently connected to our network via Ethernet connection that we use to upload/download programs. Is there a way to configure PC-dmis NC server to receive information via this Ethernet connection? Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Yes, ethernet is supported. The best documentation I can find is here

    ftp://files.wilcoxassoc.com/docs/v43manual/eng_pcdmis_v43_nc_manual_pdf.zip

After pc-dmisv4.3 the NC documentation isn't available on the ftp site. I believe that this documentation is up to date. Nothing has changed in this product for a long time.

Thanks, however there is a bigger issue in our case, The interface for our Hass machines does not include a option for "Ethernet", Serial and file are our only options at this time. We are working with the File option, using the DPRNT from the machine to create a journal file that we can then process thru the NC server. However, we are having some issues processing the hits. We keep receiving an error when pc-dmis finishes processing the hits and the report it generates inconclusive.
