Auto Vector Points with CAD

I use CAD solid models, and I am trying to use the auto feature toolbar to "pick" a circle on the CAD model. (.iges file) After I have the CAD "theoreticals" or nominal positions, I am changing the circle to a vector point.(i am seating the ball probe on a threaded hole to get true position) Hexagon says this should work. It worked in the training that I recieved from Hexagon, however it seems to only accept this about a third of the time. I am using the correct workplane. When it doesn't work, the software crashes and pushes me completely out. (save early, save often)
I have tried the "reset software" option in the settings editor, and it seemed to work for a couple of hours, but it failed after accidentally not remembering to set the correct workplane. Now it fails about every third try no matter what I do.
I believe I need to "re-program" my USB portlock to fix this. I will be sending in a call to HM to get this going.

Alien I am new to PC-DMIS. I have used several CMM inspection software packages and have 15+ years of exp in metrology.
Anyone else have problems with Auto Features?

Yesterday, I was trying to measure a chamfer using an auto_cone but could not get it to work no matter what I tried. I noticed that the PCDmis GUI went kerflooie so I re-booted & that still didn't fix the problem.

My biggest complaint yesterday was that cones were not covered the in the training course/manual AND the F1 help menu does not match the software version we have. The simplest thing you'd think... a help menu in a version of the software that actually matches that version of the software. But then again, we all have figured out over time that the help menu is only marginally helpful at best.
