PC-DMIS won't complete the measurement.

I'm still new to Romer and PC-DMIS, so I may be missing something, but this is what I'm seeing: I start PC-DMIS (Ver 2011 Rel), it allows me to measure, set alignments, etc. This goes on for some time (usually between an hour or two) and then suddenly, as you are taking readings to measure a feature, even after the minimum number of probe hits have been taken, the <Finish> button is greyed out and the Button 2 on the Arm doesn't respond. It will remove a probe reading, by holding the button down, but not finish a measurement. The arm will still collect more hits, but you cannot finish the feature. You can reset it and it will wipe out all the readings you've taken, but if you start again, it won't let you finish it.

The only work around I've found is to shut down PC-DMIS and restart, which then works just fine......for a while. This is running on a Win7 64 laptop.

Has anyone seen anything like this? Or better yet, found a way to keep this from happening?

Thanks, in advance for your suggestions.

  • Updated information

Since the last post, I've found there has been an update released for PC-DMIS (2011 MR1) so I've downloaded and installed it. Will test to see if the problem recurrs.
  • The update didn't fix it

Ok, I have updated, am now running PC-DMIS ver 2011 MR1 on a Romer Infinite 2.0 arm. PC-DMIS works fine for a while then suddenly will not complete a measurement. Still looking for any ideas or suggestions.

    Thanks,

  • The buttons on the Romer are too close and people like me tend to fat finger the bottom button initiating the mouse mode. If this is what happening try pushing the bottom button again to exit mouse mode.
  • I've checked that. It's not a mouse mode issue. Regardless of if the Romer Arm is in "mouse mode" or in "measure mode", the <Finish> button doesn't light up, it stays greyed out, just as it is when you haven't taken enough points, except the hit counter would show (on a plane for example) 8/3, but the <Finish> button is still greyed out. I can cancel the measurement and start over, but the same thing happens, even with a different feature. The only way to get it to accept the feature is to reboot PC-DMIS, then it works fine, for a while.
