Using PC DMIS that was set up for CMM with a Romer

I have been tasked with setting up a Romer with existing software that currently runs a CMM. Software PC-DMIS V. 4.2 MR1. I have set the Romer up, calibrated it using its utility feature (not with PC-DMIS) and now I need to know how to get PC-DMIS to recognize that there is a Romer attached. The CMM attaches through COM port 1 but the Romer has a USB connection. Do I need to uninstall and reinstall? Or can I manipulate the current version to "know" that there is a Romer attached....? Any and all help is appreciated.....

  • I don't know your applications but I would get a second portlock. This is because typically you will be taking the arm out to the shop floor and doing inspections, and typically this will also be on a laptop. The other side of this is if you are running the conventional cmm and the arm on the same computer you will have to switch the .dll files everytime you go to switch equipment and you will have to have a couple different application shortcuts. Now none of the last things are a huge deal but become a pain when you are trying to train someone or someone needs the conventional and you need the arm. You may also want to look and see if you have a wifi hookup with the arm. This would get rid of the usb cable. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hello all, I posted this question under Mike_B's name because I didn't want to wait to set my own up. He works with me so... Anyway, to jump back to the subject, I am working off of a desktop that was previously set up for a CMM. I ordered an new comp for the CMM which is working on Win 7 and runs 2012 MR1 SP1. I took the old comp running Win XP and trying to get it to work with the Romer. I do have the install discs for PC-DMIS 4.2 MR1 which will work on XP, so I can uninstall and reinstall if needed, of course I would prefer not to... just an FYI... Here are the next things I need to know....

    1) Are there any files that have to be manipulated in PC-DMIS to allow it to recognize a Romer, such as .dll files?
    2) I understand the portlock thing and will have to contact the maker of the romer to get that ball rolling, Im just curious as to what else I need to do.
    3) If I get a new portlock for the Romer, will there be an option in PC-DMIS to look for a USB port instead of the COM ports?

I know there are a lot of questions but Myself and Mike moved into these jobs with NO knowledge of CMM's ADCOLES or Romers. Thank you for all the help.

First make a copy of interfac.dll to interfac_master.dll or whatever you wish and rename romer.dll to interfac.dll.
