Circle and radius

Hey guys need some help here.

I am trying to get radius when i take points from a CAD by creating a circle. But when i take the hits, the circle is off and not matching with the CAD. So I changed the work plane to X plus and i take the hits again and would form the circle but i am not getting close to the diameter I need to create the radius. I setup my alignment as basic so by making a plane/line and plane. Then I need to use the circle and radius for my X and Y origin. I hope this make sense, and with some help will be appreciated or lead me to a post mentioning this already. Thanks.
  • why are you not using cad? And with cad you can adjust your start/stop points.

Also since you have cad, just do use your cad to do a iterative alignment to get started.
  • Hi leafsfan:

Don't forget that when you create a circle, PCDMIS is best-fitting your hit pattern (that you're taking with your mouse) to a circle, flat to the active workplane. Take a look at the coordinate system of your CAD model. What direction is the axis of the hole facing in? You may need to modify your workplane if you want PCDMIS to Guess a Measured Circle correctly.

Alternatively, you could use the Auto Feature Circle and click the ID of the circle itself. PCDMIS will then extract the XYZIJK of the feature directly, rather than bestfitting to the active workplane as described above. Of course, there are a lot of bells and whistles on the Auto Feature dialog box -- I recommend you use F1 to determine the best features for your application.

Note that the above will only help you with the creation of a nominal circle from the CAD model. You haven't given me enough information to determine if your alignment is correctly, so I have to just assume that you're doing a good job.
  • Are you using auto-trigger? if not, try using it.
  • Okay it worked great. But also with the circles. When I creat a circle it would have the correct size, but when i hit finish it changes the size to something else. For example, when i create a circle it will measure at .407 which is the nominal size but when i hit finish it would change to 1.000. Why is it doing that? I tried changing workplanes and everything else that I can think of. Can anyone help me on that? Thanks

Can you post your program code?
