I ran across an issue the other day I have not seen before. I run 2013 MR1 and ran my program twice successfully, went to measure the third part and all my measurements were off by the radius of my probe tip. Upon investigation i found that the probe diameter was scaled to 1/25.4 the probe thickness. I don't know how this could happen automatically, because i did not mess with any of these settings. For some reason, PC-DMIS thinks that my thickness is in inches and tries to convert the diameter to mm, causing the scaling issue. Which still doesn't make sense that my measurements are only off by the radius of my probe tip, when in actuality should be off by more if it thinks the probe diameter is 1/25.4 the size of what it actually should be.
I then wrote a quick program using 2012 and all 3 of our probes work in 2012 without fail.
Any suggestions out there on what could have happened and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated, unless this is some sort of bug that I will need to get fixed.
Malfoord, is this problem evident when you program in both Units (IN and MM) or just one of them? I do see a report about this, but the description implies it is only a problem in INCH programs.
The corrupted probe issue discussed here has been addressed and fixed and will be in 2013 MR1 SP2 when it becomes available. It only occurred when a probe change message in the program (In Inches) was ignored and a different tip was used. The solution of deleting the .prb files is valid as long as they are deleted from the path as set in PC-DMIS. The way Romer Portable arms work is as soon as a probe is connected, PC-DMIS will create the .prb file from the calibration file stored in RDS or WinRDS. There is no need to re-calibrate the probe unless of course you want to.
So this only applies to arm CMM's? Just curious? Also is there a projected timeline of when SP2 will arrive? I would think this issue would be pressing enough that it alone for a SP would be worth the quick-fix for everyone and then pack the SP3 with more "fixes". Please keep us posted here as best you can as there I am sure many who are watching this error as it is a huge one!!!
I just tried running two separate programs, one in inches and on in mm, using all three tips that we have (15mm, 6mm, and 3mm). You are correct the error only occurs while running in inches, but I followed the prompts to load each probe correctly and the files still get corrupted after running the program once. After deleting each probe from the directory and loading each one separately into the program, they load into the program with the diameter and thickness correct, but after running the program once they are corrupted again. Does this mean I can only run a program that I have in inches once, and have to run through the hoops of deleting and reinserting the probes each consequent time I want to run that program? NOT FUN
I have v2013 SP1, and would like to duplicate the issue. could you post your program or any code related to that matter please. Or is it intermediate problem?
