We are moving into new space and looking for ideas. How/where your arm is mounted, where do you put the laptop and all associated cords. How do you mount the majority of your parts. Currently our ROMER is mounted to a surface plate in the center of the room so we need to drop power from the ceiling. Thanks
I have mine mounted on a stand that stands about 2 feet tall that is mounted to the surface plate. I find that this increases your working area with the arm( when you have to measure something that is close to the arm ).
If you have some money available, I would recommend a portable stand (Brunson).
You can roll the arm anywhere you want and once locked down, is very stable.
We do have a heavy rolling table that we can move throughout the shop. Im more looking for ideas to optimize the working area. I have a very similar setup as apgar posted above. I would like to get the laptop on a swinging arm and suspend the cords (somehow) Thanks
We were lucky to have some skilled fabricators in our shop with some spare time. This very heavy rolling table has been great for me. Plan ahead though, our lab did not yet have a double-door so we had to partially disassemble the table, turn it on end and rotate it through the single door. Have lots of people standing by....or build the door first. No mobile surface is going to be perfectly ideal for transporting your machine on, too much jarring, so remove your machine first. However, being able to relocate your entire station out to the shop is a plus. Go big. We use primarily magnetic workholdings and a few clamps for stainless steel parts.
