Problem with distance

Hello all, new to the forum and PCDmis. I'm a long time Calypso guy. Here is my problem. I have 2 points on the same plane that I need to get an x distance for. You can see by looking at the pts on the Cad model that the points are where they should be ~236mm apart. However when I try to get the distance I keep getting something like 28mm. I created a theoretical line, then intersected 2 diff lines to the theo line. I need the distance between those 2 pts. That's how I would have done it in Calypso. Is that correct for PCDmis?

  • What you want in pc-dmis is a 2D distance, which means you need to be in the correct workplane.

    For example, if your two points were along the X axis on the surface of the CMM table, the table suface is a Z+ plane. From a Z+, Z-, Y+, or Y- workplane you can dimension the points, however from an X+ workplane you could only dimension the points 3D, and that would not yield the result you need.

    Take some time to learn about and understand both workplanes and vectors. There are many sources, threads, the F1 help files, the pc-dmis wiki, the tutorials, etc.

    Vectors, (and to a lesser extent the related idea of workplanes), are absolutely fundamental & essential to using pc-dmis properly.
