Constructing Diameters (Faro Laser Tracker) Muiltiple stations

Little Frustrated.Confused

I am trying to construct a diameter using individual points. I have a part that is 8ft in DIA. I am trying to construct using points, do to multiple stations (bundle).

One diameter I place the reflector directly on said surface is giving my size and location correctly, but when I start using a 1/4 edge nest it show high error of xy and dia. I am confident it has to do with points and then constructing, The software is not compensating these individual points correctly. Or do I need to change my thinking altogether and not use points at all.

Also if i measure the Diameter using normal circle with 1/4 edge nest works great, but that only gives me 180° of the dia. I would like to achieve 360°.
  • Are you utilizing your probe compensation? If you are measuring a OD with a reflector then you would want to make sure that the "PROBE COMP" is turned on. If you are measuring with a edge nest then your compensation should be turned off, that will record the point to the exact center of the reflector.

Or you could do a FreeForm scan (Insert>Scan>Freeform). Scan as much of the diameter that you can see with the tracker from each particular position, then once all areas of the diameters are scanned you could create a circle from all the scans. Just make that your Probe Comp is turned ON for all the scans.
  • Yes I have been using probe compensation. I think I miss spoke on the edge nest I should have said 1/4 pin nest. If I turn off comp. That should show my dia 1/8 off. But will give a try. I Can still work with that also.

Also I using points to check a profile. It was projecting all of my points 90° from were they should have been taken. A couple of my co-workers suggested using polar Vector Compensation also.
