XYZT Dimension Locations not jiving

We program our jobs offline and we've just added some Romers to our CMM lineup. When our Romer operators are checking surface, they are getting a good T value and good in whatever the primary checking axis is, but the other two axis are showing up red.

I think this is because they are running the point we've programmed offline and the checking axis nominal is good, but the position of the points they're taking aren't in the exact location in the nonchecking axis which is giving us red in the location dimensions for the points.

When we're making reports we have to show all axis for the customer, so even though the checking is good, we're going to have concerned customer's because of the red in the nonchecking.

Is there a way to get the points we've programmed offline to jump to the location that the probe makes contact with and compare that surface to it's true CAD location?

***The Scan Point is too hard when we have a tolerance of +/.05mm... they'd spend all day scanning down a single surface.

Thanks for any help!

  • That's what I thought too, but even when trying to achieve deviation I'm only getting a .02mm difference. Plus... the boss expects them to work, so I get stuck trying to make the things run... you know how it is. :/

The checking surface is repeating just fine (if it's a straight up and down net the Z axis checks perfectly), but the X and Y, since I'm not hitting their exact programed nominal every time, are coming up as bad.

yeah, but I've found their repeatability to be alright. We're using them for a prelim inspection on a fixture before putting it on a 'real boy' machine... again, not my idea
