Guides on pickup up odd details?

I've mainly worked with fixtures that have designed alignment features. We recently purchased a few romer units and now we're picking up individual details that may not have obvious alignment features.

Does anyone have a good resource that gives examples of aligning on freestate objects?

Also here is one thing I'm trying to wrap my head around:

We're inspecting the individual details to their CAD as they come out of CNC. Are we able to align to features that we're trying to verify to see if they're correct?

EX: If I'm inspecting the location of two bushing holes, am I able to use them as my rotation features if the entire point of checking the detail is to make sure those bushings are in the right spot?

Thanks in advance for helping my ignorant self.

  • Say I have a detail like the one below. I want to make sure all the features and surfaces are good relative to each other.

In the detail pictured, I'd probably pick up the two dowel holes on the front to origin and align off of them then 3 points to plane.... somewhere?

Say there were no dowel holes on this detail though; that's where I get stuck.

I'm so used to thinking like a typical fixture programmer and I don't think that style of thought is best suited for Romer use :/

We do have the CAD++ version
