Aligning and working on parts with machine stock

Hello everyone,

I am glad that you folks and this forum exist because there are times that we would be very stuck, if not for you, Thank you all!

We made major changes to a program and they want to know if they are going in the right direction, they have asked us to tell them if the contour is correct, the issue is that the part has .070 stock on the surfaces in question, Can someone tell me if I can align by using the scanner and a point cloud, or what is the best way to do it. Only half of the part has been machined, there are NO finished surfaces, so if I was to align by picking points these points will have .070 stock.
Please advise, we have a great CMM both with PC DMIS 2018, but the idea is to get this Arm working.
I am waiting for a reply, Thank you very much!

  • Using a point cloud and scan only the part with the additional material is possible. In this way you can use the point cloud alignment function and use the OFFSET field to enter your additional thickness value. This is the faster way of doing the measurement. The other way is how it is described above, using extracted features and using the T(hickness) value to create features.
