Point need more scan data

Hi all,

I'm working on scanning a part, I know my program works because I've used the same method before, however with this particular part, I keep getting the message that certain points need more scan data. I have tried situating the part differently, I have tried it on a dull surface, I have messed with all of the settings under the RS6 tab on my control panel. I have exhausted all of my potential solutions and I wanted to see if anyone has any insight.

I'm using 2021.1 with hexagon Absolute Arm 85 with the RS6 scanner.

  • - Did you adjust the diameter of search ( is it too small )?
    - Did you adjust the depth of search? this could be too small or too big. If the part is too far away from the nominal CAD model, you may need to increase the search. If the part has an area where the search is "intersecting" two surfaces, you may need to reduce the search.

Is your scanner in good working order? I have had the scanner malfunction to the point that it was scanning multiple 'layers" of the same surface ( had to send it in for repair that time. ) Did you bump the part a little bit that you might be getting multiple layers? If the search is finding multiple layers, it will not solve.

Is the surface to shiny or too dark. Did you try adjusting the capture or spraying the surface with a white powder?

One way I have found to narrow down what the problem is to 'select" the area around the point that is giving you problems and temporarily filter out the rest of the COP so you can focus just on the problem area. Then when you get that point to "solve" reset the COP to bring back all the points you just filtered. Just do not hit purge before you reset,LOL.
  • Scott, I believe my scanner is working fine, as it works with other parts just not this one in particular. I tried messing with the SHINE settings and all that for quite some time. However, I haven't looked into the depth/diameter of search. Could you point me in the direction of where to do that? Thanks for the insight.
