Form Error When Scanning

If you were to scan a gage ring with your AS1 what would you expect the form error to be? I am new to the arm but experienced in Metrology. I struggle to get under .003" cylindricity or form error when I scan the gage ring and extract features.. and that's only after I filter the crap out of it. probing same cylinder, results are adequate.
TIA for any feedback!

  • Arms.... check the stats for the arm. +/-0.002" probably, so 0.003" is acceptable since it is within the 'machine' capability. They don't list the numbers on line anymore (they used to) but the Romer we have, when new, is +/-0.002" for probing and +/-0.002" for the built in scanner (but no 'combined' value ever given, so I tell everyone if I have to probe & scan, best is +/-0.004"
  • flatness is a uni-directional thing, so is distance, sizes are a bi-directional thing, but is also filtered based on the fitting choice you make, cylindricity is a multiple bi-directional kinda thing with no filtering. Form is bi-directional but not filtered as far as I know. Filtering the scan is not the same as the filtering done for the size of hole.
