Auto Circle Measurement using Scan Data

Hello Everyone

Looking for some help to accurately measures holes in sheet metal using scan data. (position & size). Can someone please share what settings they use for Depth and feature based clipping. Not sure if I should be using a depth of 0 or a specific depth. Typically with the CMM we would set the depth to pick up on the stamping sheer approx. 0.5mm below the surface. Not sure if it is possible with laser data to just use scan data at a depth of 0.5mm?? Please share your experiences.

Thanks

  • I was just testing a recent scan (no CAD with AutoCircle Feature selection. Since it's PointCloud data, it's imperfect. I left depth at 0 since I had no actual depth in my scan. I was able to put Feature Based Clipping, both the Horizontal and Vertical, to 0 and get similar results as allowing both to be set to 4. I also alternated between Least Squares and Max Inscribed Circle (hole). Diameter varied no more than 0.2mm and location varied approximately 0.04mm. As my part is a fabricated painted bracket, I did not require greater accuracy, so I can't compare this to an absolute standard for accuracy on either. I'm interested in others' feedback on this and look forward to learning more.
