Portable romer hexagon metrology arm 2046 omega

I am working with a Romer-Hexagon measurement arm, model Omega 2046, which is from 2009. The software for it originally came on a floppy disk, but I have been unable to install it. I have tried on different computers and various versions of Windows, but without success.

I wanted to ask if anyone has experience with this type of arm and knows if there is a way to obtain the software or a assitens for a new software compatible with the arm. I would really appreciate any help. From my research, this arm operates with the softwares: PC-DMIS, G-Pad, G-Surf, G-Tube, and R-Scan. However, I haven't been able to install them independently, and the floppy disk that should install the software is not working properly.

If someone could help me, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

  • Your best chance would be to contact your local Hexagon office.  Those arms (and the associated software) haven't been supported for a long time (at least 10 years) so it's a long shot, but they may be able to get you new installation files.  Looking through our internal documentation, that arm requires Romer GDS (Romsoft) software which functions as the main interface.  You would probably need an old PC too, since it was never designed to run on anything newer than Microsoft XP.  Obviously, if you wanted to connect to PC-DMIS, you would also need to choose a version that's compatible with the operating system (V2009 for example).

Alternatively, depending on what region you're in, and what policies they have in place, your local office may be willing to accept your old arm in part exchange for an upgrade to a new RA8 arm.
