Using a Vision Probe with a CAD model

I am using a Hexagon Optiv 1 Vision CMM running PC-Dmis CAD 2013 (Release). The Optiv 1 has an integral touch probe as well. I'm wondering if I can get the Video probe to take points using the CAD model. From the little I've tried I can't even get PC-Dmis to display crosshaiirs for the probe. I'm used to using a Bridge type CMM with PC-Dmis and using touch probes. I am expecting the video probe to work in a similar fashion. Can it?

You can program offline the same as you can with a touch CMM. Import your CAD model, create your features, align, and continue creating features / dimensioning features as you would normally.

The real problem with creating offline Vision features purely from the CAD model is.....there are Vision-specific parameters (Focus / Edge Detection / Lighting) that one simply cannot predict. I will typically write a program for my Vision machines offline from the CAD model, knowing that I'll have to troubleshoot each individual feature and tweak those Vision Parameters (inherent to the Auto Features, of course) for each one.

Contrast this to the programming a touch CMM offline...all you have to do is set the Move / Touch / Speeds / Prehit/Retract, and you're good to go. One setting for each of those will probably work for the whole program. But in Vision, where lighting / angle / edges are constantly changing....we just can't predict what those settings are going to have to be.

    Hope that helps.
