Measuring Threads on Bolts

Good Afternoon:

I'm trying to measure the pitch diameter of a special bolt we buy. We usually use threaded ring gages but I'm trying to measure pitch diameter using our Optiv 321. I'm planning on placing 9 or 10 on the table in a row and using a loop to check each part.

So right now, i'm working on getting the inspection from 1 correct. My problem is when I physically rotate the part and the threads shift, pc-dmis can't find the threads and is throwing off my lines and giving me a huge deviation. When I switch to cad view, the lines are all over the place. When I rotate the part back to its original location, lines are correct and dimension is within tolerance.

I tried zooming in real close to where 1 threads was only in view and still the same results.
I tried increasing the roi for each line and still the same results.

Anyone have any advice on this? It would be greatly appreciated.
