Runout and Total runout possible?

Been looking at new machines as you well know and I wonder If any of the visual machines can check runout and Total runout. Some of the companies we have spoken to say they can.But from my understanding to actually check it you actually need to spin the part.We have one drawing that asks for Total runout within .00005 I don't think its possible, but I figured I would ask anyway.
On a seperate note I think I'll try and get a demo of a Mitutoyo vision unit in here.Is there anyone in the MA area I should go through?

  • Mitutoyo really must think there on top, because I just found outtoday they won't even do on the road demo's.Out of 4 -5 vision system companies there the only one that won't come out to our facility and do a demo. There are several parties here that would like to see there unit, however the rep basically told me If i want to see the demo I have to go to there facility to take a look. What is stranger still is I made it clear that I wanted to look into a unit that would be easily used by someone who hadn't had special training and all he kept pushing was how easy it was to program the machine and move blocks of the program to another.
I'm not sure whether he just didn't understand or not.Mitutoyo might make a great machine, but they really need to work on flexibility of there machine,as i think B&S does also.I know they have a very loyal following of machine and software, but in my humble opinion they are clearly falling behind in keeping up with what people want. They also need to stop there policy of making software users pay for keeping up with every software change. They finally did wake up and stop using all there users as beta testers for every update of PC-DMIS.At least there better in that respect.I have used B&S equipment for almost 30 years, and its a real shame they have started to fall behind.I guess it really hit me for the first time when I went down to there old facility and went out to where all the big equipment used to be made, and it was completly empty.Another area where they didn't keep up and fell behind.Or maybe its just a general sign of where US manufacturing is going,or maybe already went.
Or maybe I'm just really sick of seeing Made in China.
