Migrating programs from 6 to 7

The process of moving business from another facility to our facility has begun, and a Leitz running Quindos 6 (I don't know what release) will be part of the move. We already have a Leitz running Q7, so questions and ideas are bound to come up -
  1. How different is one from the other, in regards to running inspections and programming?
  2. In the event a manager has the idea of updating the CCM running Q6 to Q7, can Q6 programs successfully be migrated to Q7, or will Q7 run Q6 programs?
  3. If such an upgrade is done, what are the pc build requirements?
  4. If this CMM is placed on the network, corporate-mandated protocols exist for all networked pc's, including anti-virus softwares. Does Q6 or Q7 have issues with these types of softwares?

There will be more questions, but these are enough to start. Thanks for anyone's input.

  • I can give you my personal opinion, for what it's worth. Here goes:
    1) Q7 has the same basic look and feel that Q6 does to some extent. You still have an LDB, GDB, etc., a place to enter commands, a few icons, and the screens that you go through to measure something are still familiar. There are quite a few noticeable differences as well. Q7 integrates with cad, has more of a Windows 'feel' than Q6 does, the Gold keys have become icons in a toolbar, and the command editor now has recognition to where if I typed in 'ME' it would give me a dialogue prompting me for everything for measurement (MECIR, MEPLA, MEAXI, ME2DE, etc.). The biggest benefit to me personally was that I always HATED the way that Q6 printed. Q7 now prints like any other Windows program. Just hit the print button, select your printer, and off you go.
    2) Q7 does run Q6 programs
    3) Q7 runs on Windows XP or Windows 7. Nothing too special about the computer. Make sure it's a good one with plenty of horsepower but no proprietary cards or anything.
    4) I haven't noticed anything significant with Q7 on any of my systems. We use Microsoft Security Essentials for antivirus. I haven't heard anything from the community about this being an issue and I assume I would have heard something if it were.

I hope this helps you. Feel free to follow up with additional questions or clarifications, if needed.
