Can Simufact be used to model Hydroforming?

  • Thanks Qi,
I am using the pressure boundary condition to simulate hydroforming. It seems to be working, but I have no testing yet. The project is to hydroform a 5 meter diameter parabolic dish for an array of 2000 dishes for astronomy. I can share my model and results if you guys are interested. One issue I have is that even though the model is axially symmetric the results are not. I am not sure if it is the model or something that would happen in real life. It may have to do with stamping a flange ring around the perimeter before stating the hydroforming.

Any updates you have about your on going hydroforming work would be appreciated. I can sign an NDA if required. I work for Caltech and the work is not classified.
