Breaking a glue contact

Hello everyone,

I would like to be able to break a glued contact due to temperature. In short, I run a weld on top of a plate that is in contact with another plate (Arc Welding module). I define the contact between the two plates as "glued." I then wish to be able to break the glued contact between the two plates in subsequent "Cooling and Clamping" step. Reviewing Marc 2023.3 Vol. A, I gathered that CON INTERA option can accomplish this action. However, I am not entirely clear if that operation (breaking the glue contact due to temperature) can only be done through subroutine modeling or if adjustments can be made directly in the data file. I did not see CON INTERA option in the data file. Please advise.

Thank you.

Alexey

  • Hi Alexey,

This is Jianlun from Simufact Team. Regarding your question the glue contact cannot be broken once it is activated. Con Intera is a data block in DAT file and is not relevant to separation after glue contact is activated.

A potential workaround could be that you export components as UNV without contact status and then reimport them for followign cooling stage.

  • If we have a separate process for the cooling stage, it should be enough to define a new contact table with just "touching" contact. In the dat file this can be done manually for each loadcase. If I am not missing some thing welding specific here.
