ALE coupling

Hello, I am trying to simulate a birdstrike using Patran as my preprocessor. At the time of creating an ALE coupling between the surface and the bird. What are the parameters which have to be used (surface, 3d elements, etc) in order to fullfill the coupling? Can somebody please explain step by step what should be done?

Thank you in advance.

  • REGION DEF AND COUPLING
    Hi!,

Thank you so much for your answer, I have solved some of the issues I had. So, summarizing:

    1) The shape of the bird is defined by the PEULER1 material created in the previous steps. The shape (in this case a cylinder) must contain the bird.

    2) After defining the initial values (in this case, the velocity) we define the Region setting up the levels (see attached a picture).

    3) Finally, General coupling is defined and the structural surface is selected as the application region.

Please correct me if I am mistaken.

So... do I have to define the flow (in, out, both) aswell? Or is it not neccesary?

After correcting all of the above, these are the errors that I get after running the case in DYTRAN:

     %E-GP001302-CONVERT_TOKEN_TO_FLOAT, , ,(05),
UNABLE TO CONVERT AN INPUT FIELD INTO A FLOATING POINT NUMBER
        THE INPUT FIELD IS: "-1.#IND"
THE LINE ON THE NIF FILE CONTAINING THE INPUT FIELD IS:
        - ZONE,36397,36397,CQUAD4BT,37144,37569,37568,37145,-1.#IND,

     %E-GP000401-BAD_VALUE_ON_NIF, , ,
Invalid number -1.#IND assigned to variable MATERIAL ANGLE
        Check Data in Input File

    What could they be for?

Thank you so much for your help!
