The Easy5 manuals seem to suggest at the start, that it can interface with Nastran. Is this just on the basis of Nastran &EZ5 both linking to ADAMS? Or something direct?

There is no direct way to interface EASY5 and Nastran.
One of the indirect ways is to indeed use Adams as a middle man as you suggest. Another indirect way is to export linear system matrices from Nastran and import them into components from the GP library Linear Model group. See the info pages for the GP Library components XV, YU and YV. Of course, this would only apply to Nastran linear solutions. If the linear system matrices were very large then you would probably want to use auxiliary input files to supply the matrix element values to the model.
