How do I set FLUID SOLID option in Mentat

I want to do fluid/solid coupled modal caculation, the Volume A reference a Fluid Solid option to set the interface, but I cannot find fluid solid button. Thanks
  • Dear Denzel Li,

This feature is not supported in Mentat, User has to incorporate this in the input .dat file and usage is limited to Modal analysis only.

    Ex:

    fluid solid
    5,1,3,10,
    6,1,4,10,

Example is available in Marc Vol.E Chapter 6.5, Frequencies of Fluid-solid Coupled System

This method uses the added mass approach; to include the fluid effect.
This is a different approach than the Coupled Fluid Solid Analysis. The idea is that mass of the fluid is added to the structural elements which are attached to the fluid. The user has to make a connection between each face of the solid which connects the fluid.

  • Thanks for reply.
In that Example, I find the element 3&5 and 4&6 are not coupled in all nodes. For element 3&5, the node 17 &18 locates in same position; for element 4&6, the node 22&23 locates in same postion. Other nodes in these element are coupled, is it necessary ? If so then how do I define which one should be sweeped ?
  • "apply1" BC is on the node 17 which belongs to fluid element. Unless fluid pressure is fixed at least at one point with the FIXED DISP option, fluid potential matrix will be singular.
"apply2" BC is on node 23 which belongs to structural element.
Apart from these to nodes where BC is applied on Fluid as well as structural nodes, all other nodes are swept.
