RefleX

We just received a free machine from our sister company with reflex on it. Is this software programable. The book almost is worthless. Any info will be apreciated. Played on it a bit yesterday and I feel that I hit a wall in some areas.
  • It is not programmable. It is pure for quick simple manual measurements. It works best with a hard probe, but supports a TTP too. Ought to be pretty intuitive though. It shipped with a handy quick reference guide. If you can get your hands on that one, you ougt to be set.

By the way, much of that technology has been ported into PC-DMIS. If you put PC-DMIS in pure manual mode, you get a set of very similar icons you can play with. So maybe the PC-DMIS help files can get you somewhere.
  • I have ask this before is it worth the $8000.00 to upgrade to PCDMIS. I would like to have it programable for receiving inspection to run the same parts week in and week out.
  • Newer versions of Reflex do more, but for the difference between a whole new reflex box (you'd have to replace the whole touchscreen computer to upgrade), and PC-DMIS, you might be better off just going the route of PC-DMIS. I can also say with a high degree of confidence the the PC-DMIS upgrade would be faster and less hassle for you, vs the Reflex upgrade.
  • We've got 2 machines with Reflex. We mainly use it with a TTP probe, but Jan d. is right about the hard probe being very useful. It's also very intuitive I've found.

I've seen some references to it being programable, but I have done nothing towards exploring that aspect of it.

I don't know if PC-DMIS is worth the upgrade. For us, the answer is no.

What kind of machine is it on? What probe is on it? Our new one came with a Tesa, but it died and we put an old Renishaw MIP on. Been chugging along ever since.
  • It is not great for repetitive work. It is intended to be used in an engineering department with engineers walking up and taking quick measurements. A different part all the time. A different operator all the time. That's why it is simple and intuitive. You'll be surprised how quickly people get it. And they will not quickly forget it either (which happens with PC-DMIS all the time).

I agree with the previous posts that PC-DMIS may be a better fit for your application. You'll have to do the justification.
