It is hard for me to understand Camping’s logic. End of the world means destruction, pain, suffering and death. As religious as he is, why would he so “disappointed” when the world not ended? Any believers here care to explain.
He's disappointed because he wasn't raptured away before it happened-- the whole point his followers were trying to make was for people to get right with God before the end comes, because you don't want to be around when that happens. Which is not a bad message, except for the part about using a specific date for the end of the world as a stick-- most people don't really respond to that. Nobody can know when this will happen. "1 Thessalonians 5:1 ...about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night." Perhaps if Mr. Camping just asked God if the end of the world could be calculated from clues in the bible, he would have saved himself a lot of time. The answer would have been: "No."
Then he should be “happy” that his prediction didn’t come true, this will give people another chance to get it right with God before the end comes. No?
I don't know what he's claiming now, beyond the "missed turn....recalculating". At this point I think he's just making things up to somehow justify his error and cover up the fact that he's just plain wrong.
