That's faulty logic. A lot of companies will happily drop hundreds of thousands of dollars each on high-end machine tools, but are unwilling to get a CMM that is actually capable of properly measuring their parts and only costs a fraction of what the machine did. Let alone trying to convince ANYONE that a $100-200 stylus is really a consumable item, not a durable item...

I've never had a problem getting my company to order tips. I actually had a manager laugh when I need a signature for a new tip.

Styli ARE NOT items that are expected to last indefinitely. They can wear, they can bend (LOL) and the rubies can come loose for a number of different reasons.
They have a lifespan that depends on luck, skill and amount of usage. Anyone who claims otherwise isn’t a real CMM programmer and has no experience in the field.
