Using a database other than datapage or datapage +

Has any body used or created a database to use with PC-DMIS? Something other than Datapage+. They are wanting me to look into other options. Anything to look for, try, what works, what didn't any advice would be appreciated.

Scripts to Excel or exporting to a CSV would work.
