Multiplexer help

A bit of a long shot posting here

I was wondering if anyone on these forums has any experience with setting up a multiplexer.

We have hard gauges with DTI's on them which connect to a multiplexer and then that connects to a pc and into the SPC software. I am running windows 7 on the pc and I am thinking this is where the problem lies. basically the multiplexer connects via RS232 port, when this is plugged in nothing seems to happen, no additional devices in device manager or anything. I have tried using hyperterminal to test but I cannot work that either.

Basically its a big shout for HELP

it is a Bobe 24 channel L-box. takes 24 mitutoyo devices and out puts them via RS232

We already use a couple of them onsite, however they are on old machines, one of them is still running windows 95. These run no problem so I am hoping the problem is a windows 7 one and can be solved easily.
