Im sure it takes some time to get it correct. I would probably use round magnets too (because that's what I have). If I do end up trying this I will shoot you a message. I think it will be some time before I can get to it, we are slammed right now and I have no time for anything but programming and measuring.
Thanks for sharing that.
I don't miss production machining, but I would like to have access to a lathe, mill and surface grinder for stuff like this. I do sorta miss making chips sometimes.
When you added up all the broken components did that cover the cost ?? I am lucky, my boss get its. I never have to beg just ask for what is needed . In a production environment its just ( excuse me here but ) stupidity to not have a probe changer and to rely on the operator to do it correctly. If you told someone to put op stops in all the CNC programs so the operators could load all the tools by hand and save money on a tool changer they would tell your an idiot I'm guessing..
Not to argue with you Schlag but to be honest with you, I'm probably more cheap then my company. Disagree if you want to, but I think that a lot of these components for the CMM are way over priced. Yeah I got mine at a discount. $2000.00 just to have the option? without a tool holder? Then just that 3 probe holder I made a year ago $2500.00. Really? The boss wants to invest in a Laser Scanner, so is he wanting to move forward? yes, yes he is. So I'll cut corners, safely, to get us there. Plus I enjoy machining sometimes, not all the time. If I can make something on my free time, that will save the budget, help speed things along, and make things easier, I will. They gave me a check for the last probe holder and said this is for saving the company money. I gave it back and said "I didn't make that thing for you, I made it for me, to make my job easier."
