Update Everything

Hello!
PCDMIS 2013 MR1 SP5 on an Optiv Performance 1z443
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
So apparently I can update PC-DMIS to 2014 or 2015 from 2013 MR1.
Neat.

I'd like to try that.

But I've got a real ****ed setup here, and wanted to know of some tips that'll help me pull this off.
I'll have a week or so of unlimited access coming up, and then I'll just have to pause it by putting the old HD back in and running 2013.
The relevant hardware is:

|Two graphics cards & three monitors|Falcon Camera Controller (I'll fetch the model number)|Enough HD and RAM space|Windows 7 x86|

The way I intend to do it is:
Take one of the regular backups of our CMM computer and back it up somewhere externally. Really just for my sake.
Then backup the registry (which concerns me*)
Then backup the Settings Editor and all relevant PC-DMIS files

Shut it down, install a new hard drive with Windows 10 x64. Update all relevant drivers (Falcon controller, graphics, etc.)
EDIT2: I can install Windows 7 x64 and be okay. I'd personally like 10, but I understand it's not tested
Restore the registry**

Install PC-DMIS '14 or '15 x64
Restore the Settings Editor***

Put the relevant files back where they were
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The concerns I have are:
*If I backup the registry and restore it, I feel like that will screw everything up.
Can I back up just the PC-DMIS sections of it? If so, anywhere I can find a list?

EDIT: Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't backing up the settings editor also backup the relevant registry settings? I thought that's what that was

**Will restoring the Settings Editor from 2013MR1x86 to 2014/15x64 screw anything up?
-------
I've done plenty of IT, and installed Windows 10 a billion times. PC-DMIS, not so much, but I like to delve in and start deleting files to see what happens!

Backups, backups backups...

Anyways, yeah, want to upgrade, don't want to have Hex out here for a week if I can do it myself.

  • FWIW? Yeah, stick with the green fish thingie. Keeps licensing simpler IMHO. (especially if you wish to go mad science on your installs) For our Optiv 443 'performance'.....which had Falcon64/Framegrabber issues....nothing so satisfying as rolling up one's sleeves, adventuring under the hood and getting the handsdirty. Beats the bejeezus out of reading the Help Files Sunglasses
(although it did lead to some temporary heart palpitations)
