I can select a plane and two circles and it does all the work for me! I don't even need to create a line between the circles. Also, it helps with my OCD. I always worry about which order is technically correct.
I always construct alignments in different steps (for example measure a plane / level and origin on it, mesasure two circles / rotate circ1 to circ2 / origin on circ1).
It allows measuring circles in the right work plane.
I believe (I'm not sure of it because I never done it !) that, in an alignment in 1 step, PC-DMIS find the features to make it works fine, whatever the order... But I don't recommand to do it in another way than for a simple test !
Anything that cuts down on the thinking that you do worries me when programming. I want to know what's being done and why. Then, like
anthony.alfaro stated, you can better troubleshoot when things go wrong. If I was to use it, I would double check what the Demon did before I just went with it.
I guess the answer to your question
Lukas is it's mostly new programmers who love autoalign, others tolerate it if they do use it.
Auto Align was in PC DMIS at least as far back and version 3.25. I use it but I always double check. Most of the issues with it, for me, are that it doesn't always set the origin where I need it.
