I always construct alignments in different steps (for example measure a plane / level and origin on it, mesasure two circles / rotate circ1 to circ2 / origin on circ1).
It allows measuring circles in the right work plane.
I believe (I'm not sure of it because I never done it !) that, in an alignment in 1 step, PC-DMIS find the features to make it works fine, whatever the order... But I don't recommand to do it in another way than for a simple test !
Ut oh...does that mean I've been doing it all wrong? I thought the workplane doesn't matter for autocircles?
Workplane doesn't matter, but alignment does. The autocircle does in fact have a plane since it is a 2D feature, but it uses the nominal vector to define the plane the circle is created in, instead of the workplane. That vector is based off of the alignment.
