Dimensioning Profile from points

When dimensioning profile of a surface, does pc-dmis recognize individual points or do you have to create a feature set from the points? VS 4.3 Alien

....you've answered your own question...a "point" is not a "surface"....the individual deviations on a "per point" basis of the feature are analyzed
  • I usually create a set from points but you can do individual points and report the "T" value for each point then look for the greatest positive and negative deviations and report profile from those.
It's simpler to create a set and then do a textual analysis. That will report the deviations of all of the points in the set (X,Y,Z and T).

Depends on how you program it.
    - Feature set or T value: individual points must have correct nominal
  • I also do it both ways: use profile of a point or look at T.

In 4.3 you can use profile to a point. You can also use it to a point set or to a feature. If you do a it to a set or feature, you can get the MIN/MAX, which doesn't tell you a lot. My machinists want to know which point. Therefore I do all 3.

Sometimes I use the T but as Lmabo says, your nominal better be correct.
