reverse order of features?

Hi I want to mirror a bunch of features, but it would be really cool if I could reverse the order of the mirrored features as it would speed up the cycle time so it doesnt have to go all the way to the other side of the part. (i.e. Im programming the bottom half left to right, when I mirror to the top, I would like it to go right to left, not left to right again). Is there a way to do this without using "optimize path" and hoping PCDMIS doesnt mess up clearance moves?

Thanks
  • Mirroring automaticly does it, thats why is called mirroring. I don't see how is that going to save time, you still have same number of featuresConfused
  • No it does not. Think of it this way: the part is symmetric about the X-axis or Y-axis and the origin is in the center. I programmed what would be Quadrant 4 in a CW fashion. If i mirror these features using Flip Y in Define Pattern, the new features in Quadrant 1 go CCW from Quadrant 2 to Quadrant 4 making the program take longer, not CW from Quadrant 4 to Quadrant 2 like I want which makes the program take longer.
  • Are you talking about "paste with pattern" or "mirroring", two different functions.
  • You can NOT get a reverse order of points from mirroring. I know EXACTLY what you are talking about, no, not happening in this software.
  • Yes, the features would be measured in the same order. If you start program with datum-A- plane, datum -B- hole on left side, datum -C- hole on right side. After mirroring that program it would still measure datum -A- first datum -B- second and datum -C- third. Only now your datum -B- is on the right side and datum -C- on the left.
  • I'm trying to reverse the order of a dimensioned feature from:

Dim (Feature)= Locaton of Circle1 ..etc
    X 3.7 .......etc.
    Y 1.6 .......etc.
    D .020 .....etc.

    TO

Dim (Feature)= Locaton of Circle1 ..etc
    D .020 .....etc.
    X 3.7 .......etc.
    Y 1.6 .......etc.

In this case, I'm trying to move the diameter to the first position followed by x and y.
I figure there must be setting I'm overlooking.

    Thanks

That would be a neat trick and I would like to know.
    I have been doing the hard way, from bottom up…cut/paste, cut/paste, cut/paste, cut/paste, cut/paste, cut/paste, cut/paste, cut/paste…and then change features’ names…whew!…so tedious.

Change it from edit window; I don’t know any other way.

  • Obelix,
I was talking about the Paste with Pattern Function.

    Matthew Hoedeman,
    Thanks for your answer

So what I ended up doing was program a quarter of it, copy it and mirror "Flip Y" and manually reverse the order of those features. And then I copied what is now half the program and rotated the whole thing 180° about the Z-axis to finish the program (minus the dimensions of course)
  • Next time, just for fun, try going to optimize path and it wil automatically regenerate the order of measurement based on the shortest amount of "wasted travel time" (save a copy first just in case)
  • Gosh it sure would be nice if they added this function to mirror paste with pattern in reverse direction. Is there a page on pcdmis where we can add new ideas we want, like this, and putting datum shift back..
