Disable the probe changer?

Hey guys/gals!

I have a probe changer that works perfectly, but i have a part on the table that i am programing for that is so large that it intrudes into the probe changing area. This happens frequently enough that I need a way to disable the changer. What i have been doing is going into the probe changer setup box, and selecting "none" as my changer type. This works, but the downside is, when I want to reactivate the changer, i have to go back and do the alignment and such again.

Is there a toggle that I can't seem to find? Anyone else have a better solution?

By intruding in the probe changing area, do you mean your having to remove the probe changer completely? If so, then you should definitely do an alignment when you put it back as it won't be 'seated' the same.

If you don't move the changer, you just have to save toolc.dat as toolc.old, for example, and then rename it when you want to re activate.

Depending what version you're running and what OS you have it could be in any one on three places.

PC-Dmis install directory (Older versions)
C:\ProgramData\WAI\PC-DMIS\2011 (eg) (Win 7 / Vista)
C:\Documents and Setting\All Users\WAI\PC-DMIS etc (this one's from memory but I think it's right)

No, i have not had to actually move the changer, just can't use it some times because a large part will get too close to it. I will try this method of renaming the "toolc" file. and see if that works.

Thanks for the tip, I really appreciate it, that could possibly save me a minimum of 15 mins. setup time.... easy!

what if you make a plate that has countersunk holes. Mount your tool changer to the plate then when you have to remove the changer just remove the whole plate (tool changer attached).
this will eliminate you having to calibrate your tool changer everytime.
Renaming the toolc.dat file is the easiest way to disable the toolchanger.

Why disable the tool changer at all just make all the probes your using manual tool loads by taking them out of the rack slot list and when your done just put them back in the slot list. It sounds like your going to have to manually load your tools anyway.

Because in auto mode it will prompt you to change the tool without a toolchanger and with a toolchanger, it will make a dash towards the changer.

^not if you remove the probe(s) from the slot setup list, as grandpaal suggests. A very good solution, IMO.

Click on "operation/calibrate and edit\probe changer\slots\" go to the slots your probe is located in and pick on the name of that probe. The list of all available probes will come up, at the top you will see " no_probe" pick that and it will eliminate the probe from the slot. When you're done measuring go back to the same menus go to the slot pick no_probe the tool list comes back up pick the name of the probe you want in the slot. With no probe listed in the slot, pcdmis will tell you to do a manual tool change.
