Disconnected from PC-DMIS

This is the first time attempting to utilize PC Dmis Gear on our machine. When creating the alignment the Alignment wizard does not pop up as stated in Step 7 (after clicking Measure). I did some looking at the screen & noticed on the Status Bar at the bottom shows that PC DMIS is Disconnected even if I have PC DMIS already up. I think this is the issue. See attachment
I am running PC DMIS 2010 & Gear 2.3. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  • Hi tdewards

    I run pc-dmis 2012(custom), pc-gear 2.5.13.0
Gear shows disconnected also (gear.jpg) until I check mark the generate / apply / ok
And pc-dmis starts then shows connected.
Not to be nasty but check to see if you have the module (gear2.jpg)
If you do there may be a step that you missing and Dmis will not open.

    Did you get things going??
    Yes / No
  • As you see my version does not have a drop down box as yours does. Any Ideas?
The only module that shows available is GearHX
Not to sound stupid is this what should be marked Generate?
  • Before you can measure you need to
1 fill in the parameters definition windows, parameters/pitch&runout/profile/helix&lead tabs
2 create a part alignment. yes check mark generate
Note watch where this is saved under the alignment file name.
3 now you can measure. yes check mark generate
Note the align file is the same file that the align program wrote to ( this is calling back that alignment)

I have a instruction book I made for me if this may help.
I might be able to get this in a pdf if needed.

I did get my booklet in to a pdf. If you want it PM me your e-mail.

Having a lot of trouble getting the gear aligned using an external alignment. Do your instructions cover this, and if so, could I get my hands on a copy?
  • Ktanner
My external alignments are custom to the family of parts I have programs but not instructions that is in my head.
Here are some pictures; do your parts look like any of this?
Don’t take size take features, flat gear with a bore, and gear on a shaft, things like that.
I do have different setups but you get the idea. You may also see I use a fixed head so my probe setups can get quite strange.
For the most part the final axis that is saved to file for recall by PC Gear has to be…
    Level in the Z+
Rotate from center feature to center of tooth 1 in X+
Translate top of gear tooth in Z
Translate center of shaft or bore in X and Y
If you have anything like this I may be able to send you a program you can break down to fit.
