networks, permissions and PC-DMIS

Hello all.

I have been lucky up to this point in that my CMM computer is not hooked to the network... i have complete control of it. Now i have an offline DMIS and it is on my other computer, which is connected to the network.

With that comes all sorts of problems, cause the network is very large (nationwide) and complex. I just tried to run the Offline program for the first time and it will not let me run it throught the set up unless i am logged in under administrator! I also know that if you do not run DMIS as administrator, it can sometimes casue you problems, especially when trying to change setting and have it retain them.

So I ask, have any of you found a way around this? They will not grant me access as an administrator, so that is out. My local network manager said that he could possibly put DMIS in a folder on the network that i could have administrative access too, but he is unsure if that will work. Any of you have any better suggestions?

Thanks,
Sam

  • It is on the local drive... but the computer itself is controlled by the administrators of the network... I can't even create or delete shortcuts on my desktop without permission! I log onto this computer as me, and i do not have administrative rights... if i need to change anything, i have to call IT....

    sucks huh?

Pretty much, if you want to RUN Pcdmis, you MUST be an admin of the computer. If IT doesn't like it, then tell them to take it up with HexMet. I think there might be a ton of crap you can do to the settings and what-not, BUT, for the best WORKABLE Pcdmis expirence, you must be ADMIN and run as ADMIN.
