I was with a group of CMM operators and inspectors last week and there seems to be some confusion on which software is newer and better. PCDMIS or VIRTUAL DMIS. Does anyone out there know for sure so the issue can be put to rest?
Virtual DMIS was started by a person in California. It was developed and sold through IMS. It is quite nice and seems to work very well. I have also heard the regular comments (some like it, some don't).
Several years ago, this person from CA parted ways with IMS and developed a new product called OPenDMIS. After he productized OpenDMIS, it got picked up by XpectSolutions. They sell it under license.
I have no idea how and whether IMS is still developing VirtualDMIS. If they do still sell it, they must be supporting it. Be advised though that the original developers are not with them anymore. This may be good or bad, I have no idea. I have never used any of those products.
