Probe Retract on a Manual Hit

Wondering if there is another setting I am missing. Our CMM does not retract when taking manual hits.

I know of the F5 setting in the Part / Machine Tab. Doesn't matter what we put in there.
Went into the Settings Editor and changed that one to no avail.

Just thinking I am missing somethting.

Thanks. Alien
  • My controller had the capability but I could not turn it on in my settings. I had tried every setting I could within PCDMIS. I contacted Hexagon and they opened up the controller's settings (FDC Control Panel) and turned it on from there. Now manual retract is active. So if you can access the FDC Panel app then you can turn it on yourself. If not you can contact Hexagon and they should be able to remote in and flip it on for you.

did they accidentally turn that feature off during a service call or something?

I have no idea. It was off when I started here and everyone who had worked with the CMM said it has never been active. I'm assuming it was never turned on in the first place.

  • A few things could be happening. The first thing I can think of is that the section of the registry where PC-DMIS stores manretract value is protected so if you want to enable it without running PC-DMIS as administrator then you will need to give "Users" full control of that section of the registry hive. The second is that the controller has it disabled in the parameters.
  • I am looking for user manual for DEA Tutor, can anyone help me?
  • Wow, I never thought about selling old books on ebay. That's crazy.
  • I have a DEA FBII controller on my FX7.10.7 (built in 2005). It has the "capability" to manually retract. The FB Control Panel doesn't work on my machine (W10 and PCDMIS 2023 R1). That program just locks up and you can't close it except through the task manager. There is a way to turn it on in the Machine Interface Setup under the Leitz Protocol Setup tab. There is a button labelled Terminal and there is a command that you can issue in the terminal to turn it on. Unfortunately..... you have to issue the command EVERY TIME YOU TURN ON THE CMM. It's a real PITA. I gave up on it and developed a method to back off with the jog box joystick. I HAD to, With my controller, if you do not immediately back off manually, IT WON'T back off if the stylus is in contact (probe deflected) for more than 1.5 seconds. The only way to get it to back off is to remove the stylus (or tp20 head).  Needless to say it's a real finger dance getting it to back off. I don't remember what the command is. It was given to me more than a dozen years ago on this forum. I'd have to dig through years of paperwork to find it. One of the GURUS at Hexagon knows what it is. I don't recommend going through the terminal if you aren't comfortable typing in and issuing Linux type commands. You can screw a LOT of things up in the terminal.
